Will you customize my sessions? Yes. Your sessions will be determined by the goals you describe during your free consultation. We will focus on the areas in which you need the most help. During your consultation, if Karen hears speech patterns that make it difficult to understand you, she may recommend a pronunciation package or a speech assessment.
Do you work with English speakers at all levels? No. Our speech coaching is designed for English speakers who are at a high intermediate to advanced level.
How do I know if my English is at the right level for speech coaching? If you use and understand English comfortably, if not perfectly, at work or school, then you are probably a high intermediate to advanced speaker.
How long are the sessions? The sessions are typically 60 - 90 minutes.
Do you use a particular textbook? No. The sessions will use material from a variety of sources. These materials are included in your package. There is no extra charge.
Do I have to practice? If you want to improve, the answer is "yes"! Practice is assigned at the end of every sessions. We take into account that you probably have a busy schedule and have limited free time.
What is the cost? Please see the current rates. The rate sheet includes payment and cancellation policies.
How often do we meet? Once a week is usually best. This gives you time to study the material and complete your practice. But we can meet more often if you like.
Where will we meet? If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, we can meet in Alameda. If you live outside the Bay Area, we will meet online using Zoom, a free, easy-to-use video conferencing service. We will discuss location in our initial consultation.
What payments do you accept? All major credit cards are accepted, including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club, JCB, and UnionPay. Alipay is also accepted. We use Stripe to offer you convenient, secure online payment processing. Can you work with students in China? Yes. Zoom, the videoconferencing service we use, is available in China. We accept UnionPay and Alipay.
